Perugliding layout

This article is about paragliding in Peru. I used a picture of what a paraglider would see flying over Miraflores, which shows more than tells, and a smaller picture of someone landing. My biggest struggle with this assignment was the map. In the end, I chose to use a smaller map of Peru and point to where Miraflores was located. Also, I used a picture from the writer and spread it across the two pages two give it more length. Finally, I combined the country Peru and the activity of paragliding into one word to give a fun and dynamic title.

Photos for Online and Print

For Print

For Online

The original picture was a lot darker and larger. So, for the print one I sharpened it sharpened her black hair. For the online one, I cropped it and lightened the photo.

Homely Hotels layout

For the title, I wanted to give off the impression that it was like a motel or hotel sign. Because it was a two page spread, I decided to use the second page as the focal point of the story, which showed the girl jumping on the hotel bed to show how a hotel can be like a home. I used the black border around the picture to match with the border around the headline on the first page. I used smaller picture on the first page because there was a lot more information on it.

Photo happy layout

In an attempt to emphasize the meaning of the title, I used a yellow background. Also, I decided to use another photo of elderly hands to avoid repetition of the pictures of elderly faces. On the second page, I used one of the photos given to put a face to the article. Finally, I used a pull out quote to give further depth to the article.

Wanderer Cover design

For the cover, I wanted to keep it sleek and clean. In order to do this, I did not want the headlines to have a variety of color because I felt that it would be too busy. So, the only title I chose to color was Red Light Lima because I thought it would add depth to the name. Also, because many of the titles were long, I chose to use the number seven for the title "The 7th wonder of the world" and emphasize the 7 by making it larger than the rest of the title.

Student Wanderer Logo

These logos are ideas for a potential travel magazine written and created by college students. I wanted to use black as a primary color, but use yellow to lighten it up. Because this is a young magazine, I wanted the logos to be playful by using sporadic lines.

Picture Touch Ups

For this picture, I focused on adjusting the lighting. The original photo had a yellow glow, so to sharpen the other colors I lowered the amount of yellow.  I liked the vintage feel of the photo and I felt the colors were already vibrant and showed even more once the intensity of the yellow was lowered.

The original photograph had many sporadic spots and scratches that showed the age of it. By editing out the discolored spots in the background, the picture looked cleaner and newer. Also, I worked on clearing her face, which I thought served as the focal point, and added a touch of pink to her lips to contrast against the blue. Finally, the original picture was uneven and appeared as though it was cut wrong; therefore, I cropped the picture to make all sides even and crisper.
